Internal organs in the abdominal and thoracic cavity are referred to as “viscera”.
Our internal organs have to move freely with the motion of the rest of our body and with breathing and pulse. We often don’t realize this but, for example, our kidneys travel up and down with our breathing approximately 500 metres every single day!
The loss of motion can be a result of :

When that motion is lost or altered, other adaptive forces have to take place, causing abdominal discomfort.

Loss of visceral mobility often manifests as pain, sometimes in distant locations, like shoulders, ribs, knees, ankles, or low back.
For example, shoulder pain associated with liver/gall bladder problems is a common and well-documented condition.
